Private Buses:

Private buses are coordinated by SMS parents for families who are not eligible for District transportation but are interested in private bus routes. Private bus coordinators are currently doing their best to try to organize private bus routes. For information on private buses, please contact your neighborhood coordinator: 2023-24 Contact Information.

*Please note that private buses are not run or coordinated by the Scarsdale School District or SMS PTA. If you have questions about District-provided transportation (greater than 1.5 miles from the school), information (including contacts) can be found HERE.

School hours, DROP OFF/PICK UP PROCEDURES AND TRAFFIC RULES:

School begins at 8:10 a.m. and students are dismissed at 2:36 p.m.

Drop off and pickup rules can be found HERE.

The SMS custodians are phenomenal about directing cars and will help you out. Please be courteous, kind, and patient.

All cars enter at the Kelwynne Road entrance. The buses veer left toward the back of the school. Parents and caregivers should veer right by the scoreboard. Then you can either go one of two ways around the grassy circle - to the left is the "lower circle" - that will allow your child to enter through the entrance by the gyms. The auditorium is on that level too. If you continue to the right around the circle, the custodians will direct you to the "upper circle".

The upper circle is up the hill - it's the main entrance of the school, where the House classes and Great Hall are. It is recommended that 6th graders are dropped off there for the first few weeks as it will be much easier for them to find their homeroom classroom.

ORDERING lunch:

Please remember to check out the lunch menus, which are available on NutrisliceA variety of sandwiches, salads, bento boxes, snacks, and beverages will be made available for students to grab-and-go in the SMS House cafeterias. These options do not need to be pre-ordered, however to continue to cut down on lines and service time this year, students utilizing our ever-popular deli station must pre-order their customized sandwich ahead of time. Students will pick-up their prepared sandwich in their assigned cafeteria. Deli sandwiches are available as a pre-order option onlySandwiches must be ordered by 8 am the day of service. In an effort to remain “cashless,” please remember to check your MySchoolBucks balance to ensure funds are readily available for purchasing.

absent, late AND early DISMISSAL PROCEDURES:

Using School Dismissal Manager with your desktop or smartphone browser, you can quickly and easily communicate to the Middle School your child's early dismissal, absence and late arrival instructions.

Unlike the elementary schools, It is important to note that SMS does not use this system for end of day dismissal instructions.

When creating an exception (early dismissal, absence, late arrival) for the current day, please enter the information in the system as early as possible. It is critical to note the time and detailed reason for the exception. Please make sure you choose the correct dismissal option (HOUSE) so that your House office is notified of your exception. Parents only need to use SDM for days of absences or early dismissals. When in doubt, please call your child’s house secretary (contact numbers here). It is very helpful if this can be done as early is possible, but no later than 10:45 a.m.
