SMS S.O. Coat Drive Starts Tomorrow!

The S.O. is sponsoring a coat drive to benefit Ukrainian refugees who have been relocated to the United States. We are working with a local organization called IRIS.  IRIS stands for Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services and it is a non-profit agency whose mission is to help refugees and other displaced people establish new lives in the United States. As you can imagine, many are unprepared for the cold winters in the North East. Please consider making a donation of any warm-weather items that you have. Please extend this invitation to your friends, family, and the local community. You can always donate items on behalf of your friends and family that don’t attend SMS.

The S.O. will be collecting donations in the Great Hall 1/23- 1/27 in the morning before Keystone.

2023 Yearbook and Parent Ads

You have until January 27th to purchase your yearbook with FREE personalization. After that date, personalization will no longer be offered. If you are unsure if you have already purchased one, please search your Inbox for 'Jostens' as you would have been sent email confirmation if you had.

Every grade is included in the book and we do our best to ensure that every student is represented with not only their portrait, but one or more candids (each grade gets 12+ pages of coverage).  We expect to include Sports, clubs, music and house group pictures as well.  Every student will want one when they are being handed out in June - NOW is the best time to check this off your to-do list!

Parent Ads

Yearbook recognition ads are a great way for parents, families and friends to commemorate important milestones and to reflect upon the person your child has become.   They are also a great way to highlight your student's musical, theatrical, academic or sports-related successes. Show your pride and support your school at the same time.

Our ads are open to parents from all grades.  We are partnering with Tribute Ads again this year to provide you with additional assistance in creating your ad.  No materials will be accepted at the school.  For instructions on how to create and purchase your ad, refer to the attached flyer.  Tribute Ads will also be sending periodic reminder emails directly to you.

All AD orders must be completed online by 1/27/2023.  The direct link to the AD creation website is HERE.

Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, begins today.  Over 2 billion people celebrate the Lunar New Year in numerous Asian countries and in countries with large Asian communities such as Australia, Canada, Peru, and the United States.

The Lunar New Year has been celebrated in the U.S. for over 160 years. The first Lunar New Year celebration in the U.S. was in San Francisco in 1858. Some of the biggest celebrations in the U.S. now are in San Francisco, New York, San Jose, Chicago, Boston, Seattle, and Honolulu.  Learn more at the SMS PTA DEI Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Page.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

On January 27th, we remember the victims of the Holocaust.  The United Nations General Assembly designated January 27th the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.  This year marks the 78th year since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Learn more at the SMS PTA DEI Jewish Culture and History Page.

FINANCIAL AID - a note from meghan troy

The PTA and I would like to be sure that all children have the opportunity to take advantage of the wonderful extras the Middle School has to offer.

If your family’s financial situation makes it difficult for you to cover the cost of PTA membership, school supplies, after school clubs, or field trips, financial assistance is available to you.  Please contact your child's House Counselor to discuss: he or she will discuss the issue with me or the PTA President as necessary.  All communications will be held in the strictest confidence.
